The Strasbourg platform (Embarcadere du chemin de fer de Strasbourg)was opened in 1849 and inaugurated by Emperor Napoleon III in 1850.The present name “Gare de l’Est” was given in 1854.The famed “Orient Express departed for Istambul for the 1st time from this Station on 10/4/1883.

This etching was drawn and heighten with colors by J.Arnout (marked bottom left) and printed by Lemercier “imprimeur a Paris”
