A set of shelves is very important in the Provencal Decor as the Vaisselier (Dresser) is almost nonexistent. Estagnie’s role was traditionally to present Pewter pieces but also Earthenware plates.
Like the Panetiere, The Estagne has feet as it was originally resting on another piece of furniture. When it became common to hang it on a wall, these feet became purely decorative.
On this particular Estagne the two shelves and the upper part are arched and their bowed faces sumptuously “chantourne” with carved motifs of wheat, rake, sickle, drum olives branches and a little bouquet. Rests on four Louis XV “snail “feet (but has the hooks on its back to be hung). Decorated with Five large turned finials on top and two short one on bottom face.
