The 1820-1830 (Louis XVIII & Charles X) time in France, called the “Romantic Period”. The Romantic Period was a total change in Esthetics, abandoning Neoclassicism and Academism for realistic subjects. This huge change affected music, literature, and painting and …clocks.
The diversity of decorated subjects became extreme while maintaining the very high quality of materials and mechanisms.
This clock is chiseled and ormolu (Gold) gilded bronze representing a young noble Woman lying down at full length on a Gondola chair situated above the head of a dolphins surrounded by waves. Over her long dress she wears a cross and a chaplet.

Base decor is a large shell surrounded by Poseidon attributes such as dolphins and tridents.
Clock has Roman numerals. It has eight days’ time and strike (hour and half hour) movement (it’s the original one) and a silk thread attached pendulum. The clock rests on four wonderfully foliated scrolled feet. Very elegant clock with a fanciful portrait and a great quality of execution.
