Sober but very elegant lines for this early 19th century made double-faced bureau plat in mahogany and mahogany veneer on oak in the true Directoire style. Comes with a long central drawer flanked by two small drawers on one side and a deep drawer enclosing a covered case and a small rack on the other side. Beige finely gold tooled great leather on top and also on the slide out on both sides. The reverse side comes with panelled false drawers. Bronze escutcheons representing two laurel branches rising from a vase. The desk is supported by four “gaine” legs, ending by bronze sabots. All locks are working and come with its keys. French polished wood surface. The leather is in perfect condition but it shows some darker spots coming from sitting objects on top, preventing the leather to be uniformly exposed to day light. A great looking desk with a considerable working area, slide- out included.
