Christ in a wonderful, hand carved and “Dore a la Feuille ” wood frame on a gilded cross resting on a ruby red velvet background. The frame carved out of Poplar wood and was made in Provence. It has wooden “cle” (reinforcing wood piece ) on the back in each of the 4 corners. The gilt wood frame is “a reserves de glaces” i.e. with 5 little mirrors all around and ornate in front with finely carved “ecoincons”. The Frame also has an arched pediment carved with the glorious expanse of a Plume. The Christ is in a very finely carved out of Ivory with a descript face showing his open eyes. Very probably made in Dieppe, France Center for Ivory carving since 16th Century. Age appropriate wear, the Christ figure is missing three fingers. Good Condition.
