Pair of Japanese Meiji Period Bronze "Red Crowned" Cranes
Japan Ca 1880
Elegant pair of bronze cranes of the Meiji Pd with finely detailed beak, feathers, legs, and feet. Raised on a black granite base (recent). Probably sculpted as garden ornament in a bronze body with green color and red spot on top of the head. Red crown cranes are the second rarest crane in the world and are revered both in Japan and China as a symbol of good fortune, longevity, and fidelity.
