By the end of the 18th century in France bookcase are much less integrated to the wall and become an autonomous piece of furniture. And the demand is high under the influence of the "Encyclopedists."
This bookcase is typical of Directoire period with its sober geometric lines. It represents perfectly both the elegance and the charm of former Louis XVI style but also opens the door to the more austere coming Napoleonian style. In solid pear wood with incrustations of ebony and blond filets on top, sides and all around the three glass doors. Rest on four "Gaine" feet having bronze sabots. Dark grey Sainte Anne marble top. Five original shelves inside, some with shapes permitting the show off decorative objects among the books.
Comes with locks and key.
