French 18th Century Louis XV Console Table
France Ca 1790
Beautifully carved, gilded and painted wood console table with a gorgeous marble top. It shows curved lined and sinuous movement with great wood carving of stylized doré foliage, rinceaux, and coquilles. Chantourne and moulure Breccia marble top in "Breche Medous Jaune" from the Hautes Pyrenees (France - no longer quarried) 11/4" - 3.2cm thick! At the time of construction, the back feet disappeared as these consoles were more a wall paneling decor than a piece of furniture. Also to be noted, there is never a maker's mark on the consoles as they were the result of a team's work (architect, decorator, gilder, etc).
