French Louis XVIII Period Marble-Top Gueridon Table
France Ca 1820
Early French Restauration period, just after the fall of Napoleon, the gueridon was the most in vogue furniture with a style exactly like the one presented here and very different from the Empire style. It has a gorgeous mahogany veneer with a lustrous French polish on mahogany. A six faces baluster central column is on a base resting on a tripod with scrolled consoles supported by carved and ebonized paw feet on casters. Each side of the column and each part of the tripod is adorned by superb chased and ormolu coated bronze acanthus leaves. Grey Sainte-Anne marble top. A great Classic of the time with an extremely high quality of workmanship and outstanding condition.
